EU fertilising products regulation enters full application
Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 has replaced the former Regulation (EC) 2003/2003 as the framework for CE-marked fertilising products. Products placed on the EU market must now fall within one of seven product function categories and use only permitted component materials, with cadmium limits applying to phosphate fertilisers.
Crop nutrient majors report a year of earnings growth
Major crop nutrient producers reported improved earnings for 2025. Yara's revenue rose 13 percent to USD 15.7 billion with EBITDA up 45 percent, while Mosaic reported revenue of USD 12.1 billion and adjusted EBITDA growth of 10 percent on sales of around 23.9 million tonnes.
Nitrogen producers accelerate low-carbon ammonia projects
Leading nitrogen producers are advancing blue and green ammonia capacity as decarbonisation pressure reaches fertilizer supply chains. CF Industries has expanded its carbon capture and low-carbon ammonia programme, while Yara is developing renewable-powered ammonia demonstration projects to reduce the carbon intensity of crop nutrition.
Phosphate supply concentration remains a structural feature
Global phosphate supply remains concentrated around a small number of producers, with OCP Group, Mosaic, PhosAgro, Nutrien and Ma'aden accounting for the majority of processed phosphate capacity. Analysts continue to flag concentration and export policy as the main risks to phosphate availability.
